"We lived in the house next door for 34 years. We had bought it and eight acres when we moved out here from Niles in
1972. In the 1990s, we sold a lot for the house that's south of us, and thought someday we'd sell off this three acres to
the north. We remodeled the old house years ago and then looked into doing another remodel. We just decided to start
over and build a new house on this three acres.
"I saw this house as a model for Garden Homes and just fell in love with it. It had a master on the first floor, two
bedrooms, a loft and bathroom upstairs, and a walk-out basement. It's a little bigger than our old house, but it seems a
lot bigger because it is so open and light and airy. I think the cathedral ceilings make it seem more spacious.
"I just love it. A lot of this property had been planted in Christmas trees and we had to take out about 100 trees for the
house. We set the house back on top of the hill and curved the driveway around a clump of trees. We built the house
right in the middle of a deer path, but that doesn't seem to stop them. We love this area. It's equally close to Niles or
Buchanan or South Bend. We're 15 minutes from just about everything you need.
"It turned out that our son's childhood best friend, who grew up just a quarter of a mile away, bought the old house next
door."
